Tweens/teens usually have very strong opinions about moving abroad. Some are keen, others not so much. This workshop will help parents better understand the possible reactions and challenges that might show up. Information about ‘Third Culture Kid’ will be provided to try to understand the reality for these tweens/teens.
Pre-Posting Session: Moving With Children
Although many would say that children can adapt to anything, the reality is that moving to a different country has an impact on them. Discussion about the reality of Third Culture Kid will be provided to try to understand some of the reactions and challenges that may be present, as well as how can we, as parents, better prepare them for the move abroad.
Pre-Posting Session: Psychological Preparation for a Posting
This session covers several topic concerning overseas postings including: • the shock of being in a new country – the lifecycle • stress and anxiety: type of stress related to the world of expatriation; tools and resources. • reactions and adaptations to being overseas.
Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict and Other Situations of Violence
This course is available to other government department employees on a cost-recovery basis. This course examines the legal, policy and operational aspects of the protection of civilians in armed conflict and other situations of violence. Founded on international humanitarian law, human rights law and refugee law, the course will provide diverse perspectives from humanitarian organizations as well as subject matter experts from the department with extensive policy and field experience.
