Working with Global Affairs Canada often requires one to be prepared when called on to write talking points, responsive lines, short interventions like introducing a guest speaker, or speeches meant to be delivered by senior managers and Heads of Missions. This course in writing and delivering a speech will help participants hone their skills in writing material meant to be spoken. Working in fragile and conflict-affected area poses special challenges. Pre-departure training in intercultural effectiveness can minimize the risk of failure and enhance personal and program outcomes in these environments. The course is custom-designed for anyone who will be undertaking a mission in a fragile or conflict-affected area.

Trade and Trade Policy in the Contemporary World Economy
This course is available to other government department employees on a cost-recovery basis. This course discusses how changes in global commerce, technology and geopolitical power are affecting Canada, and what this means for our long-term policy priorities. It analyzes the role of SMEs, global value chains, services and FDI in our relations with the rest of the world. It also discusses the implications for trade and investment agreements.

Trade Commissioner Service Fundamentals
This course is available to other government department employees on a cost-recovery basis. The course will give trade officers, particularly those who have not taken the Core Training Program, greater insight into how work being conducted in trade and geographic divisions in Ottawa supports the Trade Commissioner Service (TCS). It will assist trade officers in understanding their own roles and that of the broader TCS network in achieving the Government of Canada’s international business development objectives and give HQ-based officers a better understanding of how the TCS serves Canadian clients in Canada and abroad.
