Assisting clients exhibiting signs of mental health disorders can be among the most difficult consular cases to manage. This course was designed to share tools and strategies to effectively manage such cases.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• become familiar with the mental health first aid action plan
• analyze how to apply and practice applying the mental health first aid action plan in a variety of consular case situations ,including assisting clients with substance-abuse problems, psychosis and depression or suicidal thoughts
• develop strategies to communicate with clients or colleagues who appear to be suffering from mental health problems
