Description

This course will help participants become familiar with core consular functions when working at a mission. Consular officers need to understand what is “mistreatment” or “torture” and their role in training their staff, reporting it and following up. Mitigating legal risk is explained.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • understand how to manage cases involving allegations of torture and/or mistreatment
  • understand what tools and techniques are available to help consular officials manage these cases
  • understand the Government of Canada process
  • understand the importance of effective reporting
