Led by academic experts, the course is designed to provide a foundational understanding of critical minerals and their strategic importance for Canada. Course themes include 1. Definition, Distribution, and Uses of Critical Minerals, 2. Critical Minerals, International Trade, and Economic Security, 3. Social License and Indigenous engagement for Critical Minerals Development, and 4. Geopolitics and Critical Minerals.
This course will be of interest to government employees involved in international relations, trade, international assistance, and other areas related to critical minerals.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- understand the global and Canadian contexts of critical minerals and their importance
- recognize how critical minerals contribute to resource development and global supply chains
- appreciate the role of social license to operate in global contexts and Indigenous engagement in advancing Canada's critical mineral strategy
- outline how critical minerals influence global geopolitics and the security of Canada and its allies
