Description

This course will explore the trend towards the “securitization” of global trade; the actions of China as an economic actor in the global economy; and the implications for Canada as a trade-dependent middle power.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • define Canada’s economic security and its relationship to China as a global economic actor
  • describe the economic security objectives and policies of Canada and its allies, with emphasis on areas of convergence and divergence
  • describe the domestic and international drivers of China’s economic security posture
  • identify the practical implications of Canada’s economic security policies for the Government of Canada and partners such as Canadian businesses and universities
