Description

This course provides a policy-focused examination of the Arctic region as a rapidly evolving geopolitical, environmental, and governance space, with a particular emphasis on Canada’s sovereignty, security, and foreign policy objectives.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • describe the evolving geopolitical landscape of the Arctic region and its implications for Canada
  • explain the roles, interests, and strategies of Arctic and non-Arctic states
  • analyze the legal and institutional frameworks governing the Arctic region
  • assess the interconnections between domestic Arctic issues, Indigenous relations, and Canada’s interests in the Arctic region
  • evaluate foreign policy options available to Canada
