Description

This course provides a foundational overview of the Indo-Pacific region and its significance for Canada. Designed to support employees advancing Canada’s interests and values, the course explores the region’s strategic importance, major actors and institutions, and Canada’s role and positioning within a complex and dynamic geopolitical environment. Participants will gain a practical understanding of the Indo-Pacific region as well as Canada’s engagement in the region.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • explain the strategic importance of the Indo-Pacific region and its relevance to Canada
  • identify key opportunities, challenges, and vulnerabilities for Canada in the region
  • recognize the major regional actors, their interests, and perspectives
  • identify key multilateral organizations and institutional frameworks in the Indo Pacific
  • explain Canada’s positioning and relationships with key regional partners and institutions
  • describe the five pillars of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy and how they shape Canada’s engagement
