The overall goal of this course is to provide participants with a basic overview of public international law, providing a general sense of the legal framework within which policy decisions are made, and assist them in identifying situations where expert legal advice should be sought.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- identify basic terms and concepts in international law
- recognize the main sources of international law
- describe the horizontal, consent-based system of international law, and the benefits and limits of the current system
- outline possible options for enforcing international law, and their limitations
- outline some of the main legal developments in protecting human beings through international human rights law and international criminal law
