Description
This course is of particular interest to employees who will be posted to countries that experience natural disasters and to Headquarters employees with responsibility for response to natural disasters abroad. Using case studies and lectures, the course covers the nature of disasters, needs of those affected, the roles of the various international and Canadian government agencies, and response systems and procedures.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- recognize, analyze and report on humanitarian crises caused by natural disasters;
- provide recommendations to Headquarters on how the Government of Canada should best respond to a given natural disaster
- explain how to respond in a timely and effective manner to natural disasters abroad
Notes: This course is available to other government department employees on a cost-recovery basis.
