Description

This course is set against the backdrop of the rise of India and will familiarize employees with India’s political, commercial, and development impact on the South Asian subcontinent, the world order, and the regional and international economy. The course aims to provide relevant background and context, help participants understand Canada’s role in India and South Asia, and to better promote or defend Canadian interests in the region.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand key geopolitical, economic, and security trends in India and South Asia and what they mean for Canada’s trade, diplomacy, and regional engagement
  • Examine Canada’s relationships with India and other South Asian countries, including the role of state and non-state actors, and how these relationships shape our foreign policy and development goals
  • Identify governance and human rights issues in the region and assess their impact on Canada’s strategic interests
  • Analyse practical options for advancing Canada’s interests in the region, in light of geopolitical and regional trends
