This course will address some of the governance and security trends, and rising economic opportunities across Africa, as well as China’s role in the region. Africa is a diverse continent with increasing geopolitical importance. Canada has cultivated relationships in Africa for more than 5 decades to foster socio-economic development; enhance peace and security and promote democracy, human rights and the rule of law. Africa also has several emerging priority markets that offer broad commercial opportunities for Canada.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- describe political, trade and development trends in Africa
- explain how Canada and different African countries interact
- identify key topics of relevance to Canada and Africa
