Description

This course introduces basic concepts and expressions of diplomacy. It is designed to help set the scene for officers and program managers departing on posting. Topics will include an overview of traditional to modern diplomacy, various forms of diplomacy and related tool kits, techniques for influencing and advancing Canadian foreign policy priorities at mission.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • explain the global context in which modern diplomacy is taking place
  • define the role of missions abroad and the responsibilities of Canadian diplomats
  • identify key tools and resources used in diplomacy
  • make effective use of strategies to identify and cultivate networks abroad

Notes: This course is available to other government department employees on a cost-recovery basis. Priority will be given to employees with a confirmed assignment.
