The projection of Canadian culture abroad happens both in controlled and uncontrolled ways through interactions between Canadians and non-Canadians.
Public Diplomacy, the act of engaging audiences in a dialogue with the view of informing and influencing, is a powerful tool that can be an effective and strategic way to achieve Canada’s objectives abroad.
This course will focus on maximizing the role of mission staff (both Canadian-Based and Locally-Engaged) in planning a coordinated use of the tools and resources in the cultural domain.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to :
- define cultural diplomacy
- implement Global Affairs Canada's mandate and approach to cultural diplomacy
- leverage the Mission Culture Fund to support mission objectives and advance foreign policy priorities
- understand the mission's roles and responsibilities in the Mission Culture Fund
- understand the key performance indicators (KPIs) for the Mission Culture Fund
- learn how to share their success through traditional and creative reporting
- access tools, resources and funds to help them plan and respond to cultural opportunities;
- get to know the resource people at headquarters and in the mission network who can support their cultural diplomacy
