Description
To carry out their responsibilities with respect to the public's right to information, reviewing officers who are called to retrieve and review records in response to an Access to Information Act (ATIA) and Privacy Act (PA) request at Global Affairs Canada (GAC) are expected to have a basic understanding of the ATIA and PA. This course provides an overview of the purpose of the ATIA and PA, the different types of requests being processed at GAC, the importance of respecting deadlines. Reviewing officers will learn how to provide valid recommendations on the disclosure of information and will learn about common exemptions and exclusions of the ATIA and PA at GAC.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- describe the process related to the processing of requests received under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act;
- describe the roles and responsibilities of a reviewing officer vis-à-vis ATIP
- explain the coordination of ATIP requests and consultations
