IMPORTANT!

It is highly recommended to complete the Fundamentals of Personal Security (SE202) course before completing this course.

This course develops and enhance participant’s abilities to remain safe by mitigating risks associated with personal security threats that may occur in hazardous environment locations.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • adopt preventative threat mitigation strategies based on the type of hazardous environment they will be heading to
  • adapt their reactive responses to various threats such as kidnapping, explosive threat, civil unrest, and violent crime
  • build a robust communication plan
  • determine the safety and security equipment required for their location
  • describe when to revert to tactical first aid and the sequence of the protocols which can save lives

Note: This course is mandatory for Global Affairs Canada employees undertaking official travel, Canadian public servants being posted abroad, and their dependents aged 16+, who are heading to a location listed on the Personal Security Country List. The course provides essential awareness of risks associated with hazardous or high threat environments and supports safe and informed decision making during travel. It is also a prerequisite for participants who must complete the in person Hazardous Environment Training (HET) training.

The course is open to Government of Canada employees and provincial co-locators who are posted to one of Canada’s missions abroad. Government of Canada employees and provincial co-locators will need to contact Learning-Apprentissage@international.gc.ca to register.
