Across the Public Service, human-centred leadership is being adopted as the standard in leadership mindsets and behaviours. A human-centred leadership approach recognizes that people are an organization’s most precious resource – that putting people first is the most effective way to achieve the desired organizational results and deliver on our priorities. This course is an opportunity for Global Affairs Canada leaders to step out of the day-to-day operations and reflect on their own leadership practices and performance, to strengthen the mindsets and behaviours needed to transform the Department’s culture and workplace as we continue to reach for the North Star and to consider how to apply and integrate human-centred leadership back into their own workplace changes, challenges and teams.
Implementing a Human Rights-Based Approach into International Assistance Initiatives
The goal of this course is to enable staff at Global Affairs Canada (GAC) to develop strategies for integrating a human rights-based approach (HRBA) into their international assistance work.

India and South Asia: Power Dynamics and Emerging Markets
This course is set against the backdrop of the rise of India and will familiarize employees with India’s political, commercial, and development impact on the South Asian subcontinent, the world order, and the regional and international economy. Integrating Innovation in International Assistance to Enhance Development Results
This course presents the concept of inclusive innovation as it applies to international assistance and sustainable development. Learners will acquire theory and tools that foster innovative solutions to complex problems, with potential for scaling. This course is in partnership with the Development Innovation Unit (KGAN), and in collaboration with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) for their expertise related to scaling.
Integrating the Sustainable Development Goals into Our Work
Through this course, participants will increase their awareness and understanding of sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda, and build capacity for integrating a sustainable development lens across the work of the department.

Intellectual Property for Trade Commissioners
This course is available to other government department employees on a cost-recovery basis. Intellectual property rights present a new set of challenges and opportunities to Canadian businesses operating abroad. Trade Commissioners are not expected to become intellectual property experts and cannot provide specific legal advice to clients.

Intercultural Effectiveness and Indigenous Relations
This training for groups is also available to other government departments and non-governmental organizations on a cost-recovery basis. This course is offered in preparation for dialogue with Indigenous peoples of Canada. The course uses the intercultural competency framework as a basis for building understanding and developing partnerships that foster mutual trust and respect.
